Based on Dashiell Hammett’s husband and wife detective novel “The Thin Man,” the show postponed its opening night twice, finally landing on Dec. 8 1991. The original postponement came from a string of bad previews. The show’s opening was moved again because cast and critics complained that the Dec. 2 opening was too close to Thanksgiving. Either way, the show only lasted on Broadway for a meager nine performances, compared to its 71 previews. At least many of the star’s reputations came unscathed, including those of Joanna Gleason (pictured), Debra Monk, Christine Baranski and Chris Sarandon (pictured).
