"Look at Backstage. Look at the auditions that are up. Don’t wait for somebody to do it for you. My first two jobs, one of them I got through a Backstage ad, back when it was a newspaper, and it ended up to be a movie called 'True Love' that went to Sundance. It won the Grand Jury prize and I got nominated for the Spirit Award. I had no agent, and my career began. I tell kids this all the time – go out there, go to a theater company and offer to sweep the floors, offer to do readings, offer to do workshops, offer to just be an office PA and get people coffee, just to get in there. Then you’re exposed to a lot of stuff. You’re exposed to casting behind the scenes, and usually eventually, they say ‘Hey, do you want to do this reading?’ and then they do the play. So just be really active and be involved. Don’t wait for somebody to come find you. Go out and get it yourself."
