When Corinealdi went in to audition for Ava DuVernay’s film, she thought she would be reading for the supporting role of the sister of Ruby, the lead character. Instead, DuVernay asked her to take a look at Ruby, a young woman who drops out of medical school to be closer to her husband while he serves his prison sentence. DuVernay’s instincts were right; Corinealdi delivers a stunning, beautiful performance in the Sundance hit.
