“Dragnet” originated as a radio show in 1949, and then a television series in 1951. It chronicled the cases of L.A. Police detective Joe Friday and his team, and was praised for improving public opinion of the police department. After its initial run from 1951 to 1959, the show had a series of reboots: it ran again from 1967 to 1970, 1989 to 1991, and, most recently, from 2003 to 2004. Its most recent incarnation—renamed “L.A. Dragnet”—starred Ed O’Neill and Eva Longoria, but it was cancelled five episodes into its second season.
