11. “A Civil War Christmas” (Sumaya Bouhbal, K. Todd Freeman, Chris Henry, Rachel Spencer Hewitt, Antwayn Hopper, Amber Iman, Jonathan-David, Karen Kandel, Sean Allan Krill, Alice Ripley, Bob Stillman)

At New York Theatre Workshop, playwright Paula Vogel struck gold with a gorgeous tapestry of interconnected stories all playing out on Christmas Eve 1864. The 11-member cast, in multiple roles unrestricted by race or gender, executed Tina Landau’s inspired story-theater staging beautifully, artfully illuminating the essences of the show’s many characters.
