The first thing that comes to mind when thinking of a period piece is most likely Jane Austen, the queen of British romantic fiction. Her 1813 novel "Pride and Prejudice" has been adapted for film and TV more than 15 times, first in 1940 starring Greer Garson and Laurence Olivier. The most notable adaptation was Joe Wright's 2005 Oscar nominated "Pride and Prejudice," starring none other than our period piece queen Keira Knightley.
