12. Omar Sy, “The Intouchables”

Earlier this year, “The Artist” star Jean Dujardin was winning every award imaginable for his work—and then lost the César Award in his native France. The winner instead was Sy, playing the unlikely caretaker of a wealthy quadriplegic (François Cluzet) in “The Intouchables.” While many people were shocked, no one who has seen the film could be that surprised—Sy is winning and wonderful in his first lead role. If Dujardin could win, there’s no reason to think the charming Sy couldn’t score a nomination this year.
