Everyone knows Jackman is a Renaissance man, a leading man able to play a superhero but also able to belt a tune. But finding a role that calls on these myriad talents hasn’t been easy; this adaptation of the Broadway hit provides ample opportunity for the actor. As Jean Valjean, Jackman gets to go from rags to riches, nurture his adopted daughter Cosette, and fight the war—all while showing off that amazing voice. Playing Prisoner 24601 seems a natural fit for the actor, who nonetheless had to audition for the role. He quickly convinced director Tom Hooper; all that’s left is for audiences to embrace him.
