1. Alan Arkin, “Argo”

Arkin has played his share of lovable grumps, most notably in his Oscar-winning turn in “Little Miss Sunshine.” And though the actor has joked that the role of film producer Lester Siegel didn’t require an audition because “I had played this part 75 times before already,” the veteran actor still managed to make the performance feel fresh and new. Whether insisting his fake movie has to be a fake hit or losing his patience with reporters and filmmakers, Arkin provides some of the best comedic and dramatic moments in a film full of them. And he gives the season its best, if unprintable, catch phrase.
