This show is waiting to be a musical. Whether it’s “The Bachelor” or “The Bachelorette,” it would be an intense musical with a big cast (unless you’re the first one who doesn’t get a rose), who loves to be constantly gossiping behind each other’s backs. The best part of this show becoming a musical is that it can take on a “Mystery of Edwin Drood” feel. Why not make it a participatory event, one where the audience gets to decide the ending? The audience could choose which of the two finalists the lead picks, and—this is always the best part—if the person the lead chooses says “yes” or “no” to the proposal. It’s dramatic and tension-filled, and naturally the 11’o’clock number would be centered on a ballad correctly titled, “The Rose.”
