5. Maggie Smith, “Downton Abbey”

Always a pro, Smith is formidable as Violet, the Dowager Countess of Grantham. Her impeccable timing is a pleasure to watch as she maintains the countess’ position of superiority. Equally enjoyable is seeing the mask crack as the countess gives ever so slightly to the changes she’s facing.
