1. Alan Arkin, “Argo”

Arkin claims he didn’t have to audition for his role as a gruff Hollywood producer because director Ben Affleck had seen him play it 75 times before, but if that’s true, then Arkin perfected his performance in this film. He offers some much-needed levity amid the hostage crisis and almost steals the film in the process.
