5. Bill Paxton, “Hatfields & McCoys”

Native Texan Paxton already knew the story of the infamous family feud of “Hatfields & McCoys,” but his performance breathed invigorating life into an oft-told tale. Though he had just played a religious family patriarch in “Big Love,” he found a fresh take on a similar character.
