3. “Les Misérables”

To portray the heroes and villains of Victor Hugo’s epic novel, director Tom Hooper assembled a varied lot. Hugh Jackman leads the cast as Jean Valjean, and stars Russell Crowe and Anne Hathaway offer supporting turns. But unknown Samantha Barks shines as Éponine, and star-in-the-making Eddie Redmayne impresses as Marius.
