2. “Waterworld” (1995)

After five nuclear wars, all of Earth’s polar ice caps have melted, and the planet is totally covered in water. Yikes. Kevin Costner plays the anti-hero (why is it that every post-apocalyptic movie has an anti-hero?), a nameless mariner who sails around in his homemade boat. When the Mariner meets Enola (Tina Majorino), a young girl with a map to “Dryland” tattooed on her back, he sets out with her and her guardian Helen (Jeanne Tripplehorn) to find the place. Fun fact: when “Waterworld” was filmed in 1995, it was the most expensive movies EVER MADE.
