10. Edna Turnblad in "Hairspray"

The famous drag role of Edna Turnblad, Tracy Turnblad’s hefty mother, went from the screen to the stage and back to the screen again. Actor and drag queen Divine originated the role of Edna in John Water’s 1988 film “Hairspray.” The film was adapted as a stage musical in 2002 with Harvey Fierstein as Edna in a Tony award-winning performance. In 2007 “Hairspray” was brought back to the screen as a musical film with John Travolta playing Edna. Although watching Travolta as a woman dancing with Christopher Walken is a bit odd, one has to admit it’s a performance always worth revisiting for laughs. (Photo by Getty Images)
