Which Movie Musicals Should Oscars Celebrate?

1. “The Phantom of the Opera”

Perhaps many of the numbers in “Phantom” are rather tedious. But the epic title song never gets old, so it would be awesome to hear Gerald Butler and Emmy Rossum, stars of the 2004 film, sing at the Oscars. After all, they did the show justice once before with brave, brash voices that echoed through the movie theater—before they both became bona fide stars. And come Oscar weekend, it won’t be too late to celebrate the 25th anniversary of one of Broadway’s longest running musicals.
