3. "Newsies"

The Tony Award-winning Disney musical, about the turn-of-the-century newsboy strike in New York City and based on the 1992 film of the same name, opened this year on Broadway at the Nederlander Theatre. The musical features lyrics by Jack Feldman and music by Alan Menken, who has won eight Academy Awards and eleven Grammys for his scores for various Disney movies. The show won Best Original Score at the 2012 Tonys. Frank Filipetti, Michael Kosarin, Alan Menken, and Chris Montan are producers.
