I usually check my BlackBerry, my messages, and Twitter—that's when I'm lying in bed—and then I check the front page of CNN.com. I usually have to be very quiet, because I'm up before the family, especially if I'm doing "Community."
What do you read or watch or listen to at the breakfast table?
Nothing, hopefully. I just stare at my children if they're there. We try to have breakfast together if we can, and if that's the case, we try to have zero media going on.
What occupies your mind in the car, on the subway, train, or bus?
I don't spend a lot of time on the subway here in L.A. Until they lay about a thousand miles of more tunnels, it's going to be tough. In my car, I'm on my phone a lot—but don't worry, it's all Bluetooth, hands-free—or I listen to satellite radio, the 1st Wave or Lithium station. Or, I'll just listen to music, anything from the new Fleet Foxes album to the soundtrack of "Submarine," a British movie that I love.
Are you a TV junkie, or on an airtime-restricted diet?
I'm on a restricted diet only because I don't have time to watch it. Between Community and "The Soup," I put in 80 to 90 hours of work every week.
If you're a couch potato, what do you watch, and how: TV, laptop, or tablet?
There's no way I could keep up with everything we air on "The Soup"—it would be impossible. I still record "Hoarders and [Confessions:] Animal Hoarding" and things like that, but I don't always get to see them. If I'm on a plane or for whatever reason I can steal an hour, I'll watch "Breaking Bad" or "Louie." I'm actually watching "Falling Skies" right now.
Before bed, do you: bite into a novel; graze on Twitter; or fast until morning?
Before I go to bed, I usually watch SportsCenter. Maybe if I'm lucky I catch a late-night talk show, or I'll play a game on the iPad—Angry Birds, Death Rally, or NBA Jam. If I get a wild hair up my ass, then I'll turn on my PlayStation 3 and play some Bulletstorm.
Which is more nutritious: print or the Web?
I'm going to go with the Web, just because it's more easily digestible, and you can share it faster.
Give us the skinny on your favorite app.
I love Shazam a ton. I can't believe how well it works. And my 6-year-old and I play Plants vs. Zombies.
What's your biggest digital indulgence?
Jeez . . . I have to say my abacus.
With such a bloated media universe, how do you cut out the fat?
You just close your eyes and put your hands over your ears and go, "La la la la la."
