Toronto Film Festival: 'Lovely Molly' Star Gretchen Lodge (Video)
One of my favorite things about the Toronto Film Festival is that they don't turn up their nose at the horror genre--in fact, they have an entire section of the festival called "Midnight Madness" for films they screen at midnight dedicated to the horror/thriller/cult genre. One of this year's most anticipated Midnight Madness flicks was "Lovely Molly," written and directed by Eduardo Sanchez, one of the co-directors of "The Blair Witch Project." The film is similar to "Blair Witch" only in that it's a low budget, there are handheld camera shots, and it features a kick ass role for a female actor in the lead. In this case, the title role of Molly is played by the fantastic Gretchen Lodge in...wait for it...her first feature film role.

Now for the fun part: turns out Lodge learned of the part through an ad in our very own Back Stage. I've tracked down the original casting notice, posted after the jump, when the film was originally titled "The Possession." The film centers on Molly, a former drug addict and newlywed, who moves back into her childhood home and begins to experience strange phenomena. It's a demanding role that requires a lot of Lodge, and she delivers in a raw, vanity-free performance that truly elevates the film.
