“I use to watch the Tony’s when I was a little girl on my TV and with my recorder on my VHS and watch it throughout the year,” Chastain said. “To see it live is a big deal.”
Chastain has had the opportunity to perform in both theater and film, but she enjoys the stage since she receives an “immediate reaction from the audience.”
“They are moved when you’re moved, they cry when you cry, laugh when you laugh,” she says. “It’s a back and fourth energy.”
Still, as an established actress she has fears in performing onstage.
“It’s a scary thing when they’re bored,” she explained. “People say when an audience is bored they cough. You know immediately to pick up the energy.”
Chastain will be back on Broadway this fall, starring in “The Heiress.” Watch the video below to hear more about Chastain’s experience and her advice for actors.
