The 86th annual Academy Award nominees were announced this morning in Los Angeles. “Gravity” and “American Hustle” are neck and neck for most nominations, garnering 10 each—both for best picture, while Sandra Bullock and Amy Adams were tapped for best actress and Alfonso Cuarón (“Gravity”) and David O. Russell (“American Hustle”) received best director nods—with “12 Years a Slave” running a close second with nine nominations.

There were few surprises about who did get nominated, but there were some surprising snubs: Oprah Winfrey for her supporting role in "Lee Daniels' The Butler," the Coen Brothers' "Inside Llewyn Davis," and a director nod for Paul Greengrass all had movie fans and awards watchers baffled.

The awards will be presented at a live ceremony hosted by Ellen DeGeneres March 2.
