Actorfest, Back Stage's annual trade show for performers, is fast approaching. The event will take place on Sat. Nov. 1 from 9 am-5 pm at the New York Marriott Marquis, 1535 Broadway between 45th and 46th streets, on the 5th floor. There will be an extensive Exhibit Hall with over 90 booths manned by representatives of acting schools and coaches, career services, photographers, and a host of industry professionals from all aspects of the entertainment business. Admission to the Exhibit Hall is free.
Career seminars and focus sessions with agents, casting directors, and other industry professionals—offering advice on boosting your acting career—will be scheduled throughout the day. A special focus session with the casting directors of "Guiding Light" and "As the World Turns" will spotlight breaking into daytime drama. Also, the difference between pursuing an acting career in New York City and Los Angeles will be explored with the career seminar "How to Take Off in L.A." and the focus sessions "Pilot Season: L.A. vs. N.Y." and "Auditioning for Film and TV in L.A.: Keeping Up with the Pace."
New York agents will be conducting such focus sessions as "Agents' Pet Peeves" and "Voice-Overs: It Takes More Than Good Pipes." Casting directors heading up sessions include Joseph McConnell ("Be Prepared: Know What You Need for This Audition"); Paul Russell ("Inside Secrets to Getting the Audition and Landing the Job"); David Caparelliotis ("Auditioning for Theatre: Make Them Remember You for the Right Reasons"); Jen Rudin ("From Snow White to Simba: The Art of Voice Animation"); and Jerry Beaver ("Sure Steps to a Long Career"). Manager Michael Katz will host "Real on Reel: What's Hot in Commercial Types."
In additional, there will be a special drawing for two roundtrip tickets to Los Angeles to attend Back Stage West's Actorfest in May 2004, plus two nights' accommodation at the Hilton Los Angeles in Universal City.
Packages of one career seminar and one focus session are available for $45.
