Most actors would love to forget their embarrassing onstage mishaps. But nine celebrated stars of stage and screen took a walk down memory lane to raise money for The Performing Arts Project at the organization's inaugural gala at Joe's Pub on Sunday night.
"The best way to throw yourself into this is to try not to be impressive," says artistic director Jonathan Bernstein, who dreamed up the event's concept with the evening's host Steven Pasquale.
Founded in 2011, the Performing Arts Project provides arts training for the next generation of performers and culminates in a three-week summer residency in North Carolina on the Wake Forest University campus. Faculty members include Laura Benanti, Billy Crudup, Brian d'Arcy James, Celia Keenan-Bolger, Gavin Creel, and Susan Blackwell.
"It's devoted to making great human beings," says Bernstein.
