AFTRA L.A. Head In Board Clash

A group of local American Federation of Television and Radio Artists board members has brought charges against Los Angeles AFTRA local president Susan Boyd, accusing her of "placing the local in extreme crisis" in March when she put the local's executive director, Mark Farber, on a leave of absence without first getting the board's approval.

As reported in "The Hollywood Reporter" on May 13, Farber--who has since worked out a settlement agreement with the board--apparently lost favor when he clashed with local middle-management staffers and with Bruce York, AFTRA's national executive director. Boyd had asked Farber to resign, and then placed him on paid leave. The charges, brought against Boyd at the local's Thurs., May 9, meeting, accused her of violating AFTRA's constitution and usurping the local board's power.
