Harry Potter at the Oscars?

While watching "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2" this weekend with the rest of the world, it occurred to me what a crime it is that Alan Rickman has never received an Oscar nomination.

He's appearing in the film opposite a ton of winners/nominees (Ralph Fiennes, Emma Thompson, Jim Broadbent, just to name a few) and out-acting everyone, yet has never been recognized himself. I also began to wonder if the film itself could score a Best Picture nomination, what with as many as 10 films able to be nommed.

Well, apparently I wasn't alone in wondering, as I read some pieces over the weekend on this very topic. Dave Karger at Entertainment Weekly weighed in today, finding it unlikely but not impossible.
