Breaking into Soaps
While Daytime Drama has plenty of beautiful people, there are opportunities for all types on soaps. Emmy-winning casting director Mark Teschner (General Hospital, General Hospital: Night Shift) explains what's involved in getting cast and working in this genre.

A native New Yorker, Mark Teschner has been a casting director for 25 years. He has been described by Rolling Stone as "an actor's casting director," and TV Guide noted his "unparalleled track record for finding new talent." For the past 19 years, he has been casting director for ABC's General Hospital and won the 2005, 2006, and 2007 Daytime Emmy awards for outstanding achievement in casting for a drama series. He has received three additional Emmy nominations for his work on the show.
He is also a three-time recipient of the Artios Award for outstanding achievement in daytime drama casting and has received 12 additional nominations. He is a former vice president of the Casting Society of America and is currently serving his second term on the board of governors for the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
