Breaking into Voiceover
To work and thrive in the competitive and wonderful world of voiceover takes more than a great voice. It requires great acting skills as well. Casting director and teacher Cathy Kalmenson break down the key elements of making it as a voice actor.
Cathy Kalmenson co-founded Kalmenson & Kalmenson Voice Casting in 1993 with her husband, voiceover and animation director Harvey Kalmenson. K&K is a resource for the buyers of voices (producers) and sellers of voices (actors and agents). As former voiceover agents, the Kalmensons bring their decades of experience with actors to producers needing strategic voice choices for projects ranging from TV and radio commercials to new media applications like animated webisodes and even voices at gas pumps.
The Kalmensons cast and direct hundreds of voiceover jobs per year — for commercials, animation, audio books, software, Internet advertising, etc. The Kalmensons have cast the voices for advertising icons such as the Original Budweiser Frogs and the current Tony the Tiger (in English and in Spanish). Recent projects include Lexus, IHOP, Avis, and an animation project for Will Smith's production company, Overbrook Entertainment.
