Billy Dowd Casting is casting background for "The Way, Way Back," a feature film about a teenager who develops a friendship that gives him the courage to stand up to his drunk stepfather (Steve Carell) and repair his relationship with his inattentive mother (Toni Collette) over the course of his summer break.
Shooting is scheduled to begin in late June and continue through July in Wareham and Marshfield, Mass. In addition to Carell and Colette, the cast also includes Allison Janney, Sam Rockwell, and Annasophia Robb.
"The Way, Way Back" is written and directed by Nat Faxon and Jim Rash, who won the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar in 2012 for co-writing "The Descendants" with Alexander Payne. (They're both actors, too. Rash is most recognizable as Dean Pelton on NBC's "Community," while Faxon will star in the new Fox sitcom "Ben and Kate" this fall.)
Open call auditions for male and female extras will be held Sunday, June 10, in Dorchester, Mass. For more information and audition details, view the full casting notice online at BackStage.com. (Subscription required.) The casting director is specifically seeking current SAG-AFTRA members, ages 18 or older, for these roles.
Billy Dowd has cast extras for nearly 30 feature films, including "I Am Number Four," "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull," "The Departed," "Black Hawk Down," and Steven Spielberg's upcoming "Lincoln," starring Daniel Day-Lewis as the 16th president.
