"Effective June 1, Clemmons/Dewing Casting is no longer in business. Joy Dewing Casting will take over all current clients/projects," the casting directors wrote in an email.
Dewing is a member of the Casting Society of America and has worked with Clemmons since 2005. Formerly known as Dave Clemmons Casting, the company changed its name to Clemmons/Dewing Casting in 2010.
"It's a dream come true for me," Dewing said, "and I am appreciative of everything that I've learned from working with Dave. I'm excited to have had this opportunity to have learned under him, and now to be able to leave the nest."
"It's an extremely amicable split," Clemmons told Back Stage. "When I took Joy on as a partner, one reason was so I could free myself up a bit to do more producing. I'm extremely supportive of her, and I'm doing everything I can to help her launch her own office."
Casting assistant Heather Hurst told Back Stage that she will be moving to a new role at Elissa Myers Casting.
Clemmons, whose Broadway casting credits include "Brooklyn" and "The Boy from Oz," is transitioning from his role as casting director to full-time theatrical producer. His company, Stylesfour Productions, co-produced "Once" and the recent Broadway production of "Driving Miss Daisy," and is now working to bring "Home," a new musical by Scott Alan, to Broadway.
"I have done my last stint behind the table as a casting director, for now," said Clemmons, who noted that he was a performer for a decade before taking a "left turn" and becoming a casting director. After 12 years in casting, Clemmons said, "I learned a lot, and I feel like it's all kind of led me to producing, where I can literally put everything that I know about this business to work in this capacity. There are no guarantees, but you sure don't know if you don't give it a shot."
Clemmons/Dewing Casting has cast more than 100 Broadway and Off-Broadway shows, national tours, and regional productions. Recent credits include "Voca People" Off-Broadway, as well as the nonunion national tours of "West Side Story," "Catch Me If You Can," "Fiddler on the Roof," "Cats," and more.
Dewing will continue to cast these projects and more for clients including NETworks, Troika Entertainment, and Work Light Productions. Joy Dewing Casting will be holding auditions for Troika's nonunion national touring production of "Catch Me If You Can" on Tuesday, June 12 in North Hollywood.
