Comedy Pilots Call Channing, Louis-Dreyfus

Stockard Channing is taking a comedic turn with a starring role in CBS' untitled Christopher Lloyd/Joe Keenan pilot.

Meanwhile, Julia Louis-Dreyfus is set to star in CBS' comedy pilot "Old Christine" and Stuart Townsend is ABC's new Kolchak in the drama pilot "Night Stalker." Don Johnson is returning to series television with a starring role in the WB Network's untitled Jonathan Shapiro drama pilot.

Joining Townsend in "Night Stalker" is Gabrielle Union.

Meanwhile, Jane Curtin, William Devane and Fred Savage have been cast in ABC's comedy pilot "Crumbs," and Tyler Labine has joined ABC's drama pilot "Invasion."

"Old Christine," from Warner Bros. TV, centers on a thirtysomething divorced mom (Louis-Dreyfus) who tries to keep pace with everyone around her.

The casting of Louis-Dreyfus lifts the contingency off the project, written and exec produced by Kari Lizer.

Following her Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning turn as Elaine on "Seinfeld," Louis-Dreyfus starred in NBC's "Watching Ellie" and recurred on Larry David's "Curb Your Enthusiasm" on HBO.

The actress, who recurs on Fox's "Arrested Development," is set to star in the feature "Sellevision," which is slated to film in the summer.

She is repped by CAA and Hofflund/Polone.

"Night Stalker," from Touchstone TV and writer-producer Frank Spotnitz, is an updated take on the 1970s ABC series "Kolchak: The Night Stalker," about a crime reporter who investigates supernatural phenomena.

Union will play Kolchak's colleague at the paper who partners with him in his endeavors.

Townsend, who most recently was seen in "Head in the Clouds" and "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen," is repped by Endeavor.

Union, most recently seen in the feature "Breakin' All the Rules" and HBO's "Something the Lord Made," next will co-star in "The Honeymooners." She is repped by UTA.

The untitled Jonathan Shapiro project, from WBTV and Jerry Bruckheimer TV, centers on the relationship between a young prodigy lawyer (Jay Baruchel) and his mentor (Johnson), a jaded defense attorney who has fallen from the big leagues.

Johnson, best known for his starring role in the trendsetting 1980s NBC drama "Miami Vice," also toplined CBS' "Nash Bridges."

The actor, who most recently toplined the TNT telefilm "Word of Honor," is repped by ICM.

"Crumbs," from Touchstone TV and Tollin/Robbins Prods., revolves around two estranged brothers, one to be played by Savage, who are brought together when their father (Devane) and mother (Curtin) get divorced.

Curtin won two Emmys for her stint on "Kate & Allie." She next will be seen in the feature "The Shaggy Dog," directed by "Crumbs" exec producer Brian Robbins.

Curtin is repped by ICM.

Devane, who co-stars on Fox's "24" this season as Secretary of Defense James Heller, is repped by WMA.

"The Wonder Years" and "Working" star Savage has appeared in such features as "Austin Powers in Goldmember" and "The Rules of Attraction."

He is repped by Endeavor.

"Invasion," from Warner Bros. TV, chronicles the bizarre occurrences in a small Florida town after it is ravaged by a hurricane.

Labine's credits include ABC's short-lived drama "That Was Then" and the feature "My Boss's Daughter." He is repped by UTA and Tyman Stewart of the Characters Talent Agency in Vancouver.
