Robert Duvall is ready to kick around with Will Ferrell, landing a lead role in an untitled soccer comedy due to start shooting in January.
Ferrell plays the coach of his young son's soccer team who is forced to go up against his highly competitive father (Duvall), who has a new son on the opposing team. Feature newcomer Marco Schnabel will direct the Universal project.
Duvall already has soccer experience, having starred as the coach of a Scottish team in the 2000 film "A Shot at Glory."
He also has signed on to star in "Bit Players," a pitch that Universal picked up earlier this month with Gene Hackman and Dustin Hoffman also attached. Duvall can be seen onscreen in "Secondhand Lions" for New Line Cinema and next stars in "The Lost City" for actor-director Andy Garcia.
