Hey everyone! 2012 has been a pal to me thus far. My January and February were spent throwing a fierce benefit bash with InViolet Rep, having a questionable experience shooting a commercial for a certain well-known condom company (a story probably best shared over a drink), recording a children's audio book about plant reproduction, and writing a short play about two guys who find companionship in the feminine-product aisle of the Duane Reade. It's been a colorful winter.
Recently I was in the throes of rehearsals for Sara Farrington's beautiful play, "Mickey and Sage." I'm happy to report that after full houses at our workshop performances in January, and in preparation for our full run at Incubator Arts Project in September, we are going on tour. Yep, we are throwing four actors, three fences, and two big boxes of props in a van and performing the play at colleges and arts programs throughout the land. First stop is the National Theater Institute at the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center. If you'd like our hilarious play to pay a visit to your college or training program, give us a shout at MickeyandSage@gmail.com.
Things have been moving along nicely in the writing department too. My first full-length play, "Branched," received a great staged reading last month with Urban Stages as part of its Words by Women series. I'm also excited about launching an eBook I wrote for actors, "Rehearsing Alone for Actors: 10 Ways to Stay Sharp Between Shows."
The new play - generating project I organize is celebrating our one-year anniversary this month. What started as a murky little idea in my brain has taken on a happy life of its own. Last month we had a blast honoring Valentine's Day with "The Love Letter Plays"; we spent a weekend creating plays sparked by real-life love letters. On March 25 at Brooklyn Winery, we bring you "The End of Days Plays," an admittedly cheeky title for plays inspired by off-the-wall Bible verses. I'm not promising anything, but there may be a play about a bald guy named Elisha who summons bears to destroy a whole town in the name of the Lord.
