Will Ferrell and "Napoleon Dynamite" star Jon Heder might be lacing up for "Blades of Glory," a comedy set in the competitive world of ice skating.
The DreamWorks film revolves around a pair of world-class men's figure skaters who are banned from the sport after their disgraceful brawl during the Winter Games in Salt Lake City. After three years of toiling in obscurity, they attempt to put aside their feud and exploit a loophole in the terms of their suspension, partnering to compete in the only category open to them -- pairs figure skating.
Serious talks are under way to have Ferrell and Heder star as the disgraced pair, with Will Arnett ("Arrested Development") and Amy Poehler ("Saturday Night Live") playing their rivals. Sources cautioned, however, that salary and scheduling concerns could sideline the prospective deal.
The casting of Arnett and Poehler marks the first big-screen pairing of the husband-and-wife team, who appeared together in the second season of "Arrested Development."
The film will be directed by commercials veterans Josh Gordon and Will Speck. Ben Stiller is on board as a producer through his Red Hour Films banner.
Ferrell currently is shooting an untitled NASCAR comedy for Columbia. He returns to theaters in February with the indie black comedy "Winter Passing."
Heder, who most recently appeared in DreamWorks' "Just Like Heaven," next will appear alongside Rob Schneider and David Spade in "The Benchwarmers," a sports comedy set for release in April.
