FOX’s new primetime line up hints the network that was once the go-to for voiceover work has shifted gears and is now focused on developing more live-action programing with onscreen roles.

In the last few years, FOX was famous for its "Animation Domination" lineup that included mainstays like "The Simpsons," but also newly developed programs like "The Cleveland Show,” a spinoff from cult-favorite "Family Guy," and "Bob's Burgers." In 2011, it ordered a run of episodes for the Jonah Hill-produced series “Allen Gregory” and an animated version of “Napoleon Dynamite,” neither of which lasted out the season.

FOX announced its 2012-2013 season at its upfront presentation May 14, but it didn’t include any new animated programs. Instead, the network announced it was adding three new comedies and two new dramas next season.

Its new shows include Mindy Kaling's comedy "The Mindy Project" and ensemble comedy "Ben and Kate." The latter stars Dakota Johnson and Nat Faxon as odd-couple siblings, while the former is a sitcom created by and starring Kaling, who’s famous for her role as Kelly Kapoor on NBC’s “The Office.” Both shows will join “Raising Hope” and “New Girl” as part of FOX’s Tuesday night comedy block.

The top-rated network also announced a new character drama, “The Mob Doctor,” would join its Monday night schedule. The one-hour show stars Jordana Spiro in the lead role of a young surgeon forced to moonlight as, well, a mob doctor. The show was cast by Debi Manwiller, the casting director at 20th Century Fox.

The Kevin Williamson-created serial killer drama, "The Following," which stars Kevin Bacon and James Purefoy, is slated for a mid-season debut along with the single-camera comedy "The Goodwin Games,” which was cast by Marisa Ross (who also cast CBS’s “How I Met Your Mother”). “The Following” was cast by Lesli Gelles and Greg Orson at GO Casting.

“I have no doubt that our two genre-defying new dramas, our new FOX Sports Saturdays, and our three new distinctive, sharp and upscale comedies - all fronted by incredible talent - can propel FOX to even greater success,” Kevin Reilly, entertainment president at Fox Broadcasting Company, said in a statement.

FOX also announced that Sarah Jessica Parker and Kate Hudson will have reccurring roles on "Glee," which has been moved to Thursdays following “The X Factor” for the show’s fourth season.

Meanwhile, the network also announced that its animated line up, which also includes “American Dad,” would remain unchanged for the upcoming season.
