Playbill.com reports Grey Gardens, the Off-Broadway musical tale of mother-and-daughter Long Island socialites, will begin previews at the Walter Kerr Theatre on Oct. 3. The critically-lauded hit musical starring Tony Award winner Christine Ebersole and Mary-Louise Wilson will officially open Nov. 2.
East of Doheny (Kelly Gonda, Founder and President; Beth Williams, Executive Producer), in association with Playwrights Horizons (Tim Sanford, Artistic Director; Leslie Marcus, Managing Director), will present the musical on Broadway. The play's world premiere Playwrights Horizons production was extended three times, running from Feb. 10 - April 30.
The musical by Doug Wright (book), Michael Korie (lyrics), and Scott Frankel (music) was inspired by the 1975 documentary of the same name, which follows Edith Bouvier Beale and her daughter Edie (first cousins to Jackie Kennedy Onassis) in their declining years. A feature film starring Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange is also currently in development.
