The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts has extended the deadline for submissions for its Fund for New American Plays. The new date is May 1, 1998.
The fund is available to any nonprofit professional American theatre company for any one play which will receive its world premiere between Nov. 1, 1998 and Dec. 31, 1999. The three grant categories are:
--Theatre grants to underwrite expenses related to the enhancement and support of the creative process, such as allowing larger casts and hiring special guests (in addition, playwrights will receive $10,000);
--The Roger L. Stevens Award, an incentive grant of $2,500 presented to playwrights whose works show exceptional promise;
--A new grant of $5,000 presented to the most promising comedy writer.
All applications must be submitted by a theatre company; no submissions from individual playwrights will be accepted. If the application is for a co-production, one theatre must serve as primary representative.
