The Actors' Fund of America, a nationwide human services organization for the performing arts and entertainment, has announced its new Los Angeles program schedule running from July through December. The workshops, support groups, and activities are designed to assist professional performers in navigating the entertainment industry.
The July schedule begins with weekly orientations to the Fund's Actor's Work Program, which offers group and individual career counseling. A six week seminar that explores how money affects performers, "Money and the Performing Artist," will begin July 10. For newly transplanted artists, the organization will also offer "Welcome to Hollywood," a monthly group to connect with local resources.
There are also a series of one day workshops provided by the organization including "Job Search and Interview Skills Workshop" on July 25, a program created for industry professionals to get support, job leads, and referrals as well as plan strategies to boost job search skills. "Personal Assistant" on July 26 will introduce actors to finding work as personal assistants. The "Resume Writing Workshop" on Aug. 1 will assist those interested in developing a sideline career or transitioning to a new career, as well as developing job search skills. The "Getting and Keeping Heath Insurance" workshop on Aug. 9 will be a meeting for uninsured and under-insured members of the arts and entertainment community. On Aug. 30, "Trainers and Motivational Speakers" will give an introduction to the field and a meet-and-greet with industry professionals.
The Actor's Fund HIV/AIDS Activity Group will also host a trip on Aug. 23 to The Getty Center for clients in the HIV/AIDS Initiative program. The schedule ends with "Are You on the Fence with Life in the Industry," a support group that helps men and women explore with peers "the emotional, spiritual, and practical issues of continuing their careers in the industry."
All workshop programs are held at the Fund's L.A. offices, 5757 Wilshire Blvd., Suite #400. For a detailed schedule and more information, visit www.actorsfund.org.
