The Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle announced on Friday that its awards ceremony for qualifying year 2012 will take place on Monday, March 18, 2013, at the Los Angeles Theatre Center in downtown L.A. The Circle’s invitation-only nominees’ reception, which will take place two weeks before the awards ceremony, will also be held at the Los Angeles Theatre Center.
“With all due respect to the various wonderful venues that have graciously housed the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle awards ceremony over the years, there’s something incredibly apt about this year’s location, the Los Angeles Theatre Center,” LADCC President and Backstage critic David C. Nichols said in the announcement. “Since its inception, LATC has been one of the treasures of the local theatrical community, and we sincerely hope that having the LADCC awards there will remind said community just how great a resource we have in our revitalizing downtown pocket.”
The Los Angeles Theatre Company is a facility of the City of L.A., and has been operated by the Latino Theater Company since January 2006, when the company signed a 20-year lease on the building. In an effort to revitalize the building, the Latino Theater Company obtained a $4 million grant from the California Cultural and Historic Endowment, and in October 2007, the newly refurbished building was debuted as the Los Angeles Theatre Company.
Information about the show's host, ticketing, and theme will be announced later in the year.
