Requirements for runway shows, commercial catalogs, advertising campaigns, and editorial opportunities vary, but men who start a modeling career between the ages of 15 and 25 can continue well into their 40s or 50s.
Height can range between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet 2 inches, but most male models are at least 5 feet 11 or 6 feet. Preferred weight is less than 175 pounds, with a waist of 30–35 inches and a chest measurement of 36–40 inches. Standard jacket size-one of the most stringent requirements, because the industry standard for clothing samples will only fit a small range-is usually 40 regular to 42 long. Shoe size should be between 9 and 12. Models must have smooth, clean skin as well as well-groomed hair and nails. They should be in top physical condition, but tone is more important than muscle.
