The rowdy frat boys of Delta House are headed for Broadway. A musical version of "National Lampoon's Animal House," the 1978 hit film comedy, which launched a thousand toga parties and food fights on college campuses, is in the works. "Animal House: The Musical" will be produced by Universal, a division of the studio which released the original film; Jeffrey Richards and Jerry Frankel, whose current credits include "The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess" and "Gore Vidal's The Best Man;" and James L. Nederlander, president of the Nederlander Organization. The score will be provided by the Canadian band
Barenaked Ladies and the libretto will be written by
Michael Mitnick. Casey Nicholaw, who won a Tony for "
The Book of Mormon," will direct and choreograph.
No casting or dates for the show have been announced yet.
