The following listings are NOT casting notices but are intended to provide the best general information available on current projects. The New York listings alternate between Broadway theater one week and film and television the next. Unless otherwise stated, all contact with casting directors should be through the mail. Broadway shows under the Equity Production Contract are required to conduct EPAs (Equity principal auditions) once a year and Equity chorus calls every six months. Detroit, Lisa D'Amour's play about two suburban couples dealing with financial woes. The play had its world premiere at Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre, Sept. 9–Nov. 7, 2010. NEW *End of the Rainbow, Peter Quilter's new play with music, about Judy Garland and Mickey Deans. Terry Johnson directs. Gore Vidal's The Best Man, a revival of Gore Vidal's 1960 play about a presidential convention. Previously revived in 2000. Jeffrey Richards, a producer of the 2000 staging, again produces. Michael Wilson ("The Orphans' Home Cycle") directs. James Earl Jones will be one of the stars. Target opening: spring 2012.

Lysistrata Jones, a musical suggested by Aristophanes' "Lysistrata," which played Off-Broadway earlier this season, with a book by Douglas Carter Beane and a score by Lewis Flinn. Performances begin Nov. 12 at the Walter Kerr Theatre, 219 W. 48th St., NYC. Opens Dec. 14. Casting: Cindy Tolan Casting, 145 Sixth Ave., 7th floor, NYC 10013. Last EPA: July 25.

Man and Boy, a revised version of Terence Rattigan's 1963 play about a financial scandal. Frank Langella will star in and Maria Aitken ("The 39 Steps") will direct a production for Roundabout Theatre Company. Aitken staged a production in London in 2005. Nice Work If You Can Get It, a new musical set in the 1920s featuring a book by Joe DiPietro and songs from the George and Ira Gershwin songbook. Kathleen Marshall ("Anything Goes") directs and choreographs. Matthew Broderick is slated to star. An earlier version was to have starred Harry Connick Jr. but never got beyond the planning stages. On a Clear Day You Can See Forever, a new version of the 1965 musical by Alan Jay Lerner and Burton Lane about ESP and reincarnation, featuring a revised script by Peter Parnell and direction by Michael Mayer. A staged reading at Vassar College was produced during the summer of 2010, and a Vineyard Theatre developmental lab production, open to subscribers only, is ran July 25–30. Rebecca, a musical version of Daphne du Maurier's suspense novel, with original book and lyrics by Michael Kunze and music by Sylvester Levay. Christopher Hampton will write the English book adaptation and will collaborate with Kunze on the English lyrics. Michael Blakemore and Francesca Zambello direct. Berry Gordy Project, a musical based on the life of the Motown mogul. The New York Post reports that the show is in development and will employ Motown hits for the score.

Betty Boop, a musical based on the 1930s cartoon character, featuring a score by Grammy winner David Foster and a book by Sally Robinson and Oscar Williams. Target opening: 2010-11 season.

Big Fish, a musical based on the novel by Daniel Wallace and the 2003 film version, about a storytelling father and his skeptical son. Susan Stroman directs and choreographs. Andrew Lippa ("The Addams Family") writes the music and lyrics, and John August, who wrote the screenplay for the film, authors the book. Target Broadway opening: spring 2012.

Blazing Saddles, a musical version of Mel Brooks' 1974 film spoof of westerns. Brooks recently told The Canadian Press he is working on the score.

Bonnie and Clyde: A Folktale, a musical based on the lives of the famous criminal couple of the 1930s. The book is by Hunter Foster and the score is by Rick Crom. A reading starring Sutton Foster, Will Swenson, Marc Kudisch, Debra Monk, and Christopher Sieber was held June 16, 2009, in Manhattan. Not to be confused with the similarly-themed "Bonnie & Clyde" by Frank Wildhorn, Don Black, and Ivan Menchell, which is opening on Broadway on Dec. 1. 

The Boys of Summer, a new play based on Roger Kahn's 1971 best-selling book about the Brooklyn Dodgers. Target opening: 2012.

BricktopQueen of the Night, a new musical based on the life of Ada "Bricktop" Smith, a café owner and singer in the 1920s. Chuck Seffan is writing the lyrics and Ron Abel the music. Fantasia Barrino and Whoopi Goldberg have been mentioned for the lead. The Daily News reports George Lucas' Industrial Light and Magic might become involved.

Bruce Lee: Journey to the West, a new musical based on the life of the actor and martial artist. David Yazbek ("Dirty Rotten Scoundrels," "The Full Monty") is composing the music, and David Henry Hwang ("Aida," "Yellow Face") is writing the book and lyrics. Bus Stop, a revival of William Inge's 1955 play about bus passengers stranded during a snowstorm. A reading directed by Scott Ellis and starring Benjamin Walker, Amanda Seyfried, and Schuler Hensley will be held in August.

Busker Alley, a musical based on the 1938 film "St. Martin's Lane." Jim Dale is slated to star and Tony Walton to direct. The show was originally scheduled to open on Broadway in 1995, but star Tommy Tune broke his foot, and the production closed out of town.

Dances With Wolves, a musical version of the 1986 novel by Michael Blake, which served as the basis for the Oscar-winning 1990 film. Producer Matt Murphy ("Memphis") has acquired the stage rights.

Death of a Salesman, a revival of Arthur Miller's classic 1949 play. The New York Post reports that Philip Seymour Hoffman is interested in playing Willy Loman and that Mike Nichols will direct. Target opening: 2011.

Dumbo, a stage version of the 1941 animated film. The New York Post reports that Disney is in talks with directors to bring it to Broadway. No dates or creative team as of yet.

Enter Laughing: The Musical, a reworked revival of the 1976 musical "So Long, 174th Street," based on the play "Enter Laughing" by Joseph Stein, which was in turn based on Carl Reiner's memoir of the same name. This production was a hit Off-Broadway at the York Theatre Company during the 2008-09 season. Target opening: 2010-11.

A Few Good Men, a revival of Aaron Sorkin's 1989 play about a military trial. According to The New York Times, producer Ken Davenport and director David Esbjornson are seeking a star for the lead role. Previously announced target opening: 2010-11 season.

Finding Neverland, a musical based on the 2004 film about J.M. Barrie, the playwright who created Peter Pan. The book is by Allan Knee, author of the play upon which the film was based, and the score is by composer Scott Frankel and lyricist Michael Korie ("Grey Gardens"). A reading was held in January 2009 with Christian Borle, Kate Baldwin, and Katie Holmes, directed by Rob Ashford. A reading of a later draft was held June 5, 2009, in Manhattan, also starring Christian Borle. Harvey Weinstein will produce.

The First Wives Club, a musical based on the 1996 film comedy, featuring a score by pop songwriters Eddie Holland, Lamont Dozier, and Brian Holland and a book by Rupert Holmes. A pre-Broadway tryout directed by Francesca Zambello played San Diego's Old Globe Theatre in summer 2009. Zambello has since left the project and a new director is being sought. Flare Path, a revival of Terence Rattigan's 1942 play about Royal Air Force pilots. The New York Post reports that producers are interested in transferring a London production, starring Sienna Miller and directed by Trevor Nunn, to Broadway.

Funny Girl, a revival of the 1964 Jule Styne–Bob Merrill–Isobel Lennart musical based on the early life of entertainer Fanny Brice. Bartlett Sher ("South Pacific") will direct. Lauren Ambrose will play Fanny Brice. The production will run Jan. 15–Feb. 26, 2012, at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles. Target Broadway opening: spring 2012. No dates or creative team have been announced.

Golden Boy, a revival of the 1964 musical based on Clifford Odets' play of the same name. The New York Post reports that Usher is in negotiations to play the lead.

The Great Game, a new play by D. Tucker Smith set in 1870. Described as a romantic adventure rife with danger, espionage, and unexpected love. Sheryl Kaller ("Next Fall") directs. Target opening: 2011-12 season.

Hazel, a new musical inspired by the character created by cartoonist Ted Key, with music by Ron Abel, lyrics by Chuck Steffan, and book by Lissa Levin. Target opening: 2011.

Hedwig and the Angry Inch, a revival of the 1998 Off-Broadway musical by John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask about a transgender rock singer. The New York Post reports that Mitchell will reprise the title role and there will be some updates to the script. Target Broadway opening: 2010-11 season.

The Honeymooners, a new musical based on the classic TV series. Dusty Kay and Bill Nuss are writing the book, and Stephen Weiner and Peter Mills are writing the score. Jerry Mitchell ("Legally Blonde," "Catch Me If You Can") directs. Jim Belushi, Peter Scolari, Rachel York, Helene Yorke, and John Treacy Egan participated in an industry reading on June 24.

Houdini, a musical based on the life of the escape artist, with music by Oscar and Grammy winner Danny Elfman, lyrics by David Yazbek ("The Full Monty," "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels"), and book by Kurt Andersen (the novels "Heyday" and "Turn of the Century"). Hugh Jackman will star. Directed by Jack O'Brien ("Hairspray"). Original target opening: spring 2010. No new dates announced.

The Hudsucker Proxy, a musical version of the 1994 film by Joel and Ethan Coen about a mailroom employee who becomes the CEO of a large corporation. Glenn Slater ("The Little Mermaid") is writing the book and lyrics. Stephen Weiner is composing the music.

Josephine, a musical based on the life of Josephine Baker, the African-American performer who became a star in Paris in the 1920s. The New York Times reports that Deborah Cox ("Aida") will star. Joey McKneely will direct. Steve Dorff is the composer, and John Bettis will write the lyrics. Ellen Weston and Mark Hampton will write the book. King KongLive on Stage, a musical based on the classic 1933 film. It's the latest project of Global Creatures, the Australian production company behind "Walking With Dinosaurs—The Arena Spectacular." Directed by Daniel Kramer and written by Craig Lucas ("Prelude to a Kiss"), with Grammy nominee Darius de Vries writing new songs and arranging tunes from the Depression era. No dates announced.

Kinky Boots, a musical version of the 2005 film comedy about a British drag queen. Producers Daryl Roth and Hal Luftig have acquired the rights, and Jerry Mitchell ("Legally Blonde," "Cry-Baby") is in talks to direct. No writing team is yet in place.

Leap of Faith, a musical version of the 1992 film about a con artist posing as an evangelist, featuring music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Glenn Slater, and book by Janus Cercone, author of the original screenplay. Like Water for Chocolate, a musical based on Laura Esquivel's novel and the 1992 film version, about love and food in a Mexican family. Quiara Alegría Hudes ("In the Heights") is writing the book. The score is by Lila Downs and Paul Cohen. A production is planned for Arena Stage in Washington, D.C., June 8–July 29, 2012. The Arena Stage press release states that there are plans to move it to Broadway.

Love Never Dies, a sequel to "The Phantom of the Opera," set in New York in 1907. Andrew Lloyd Webber is the composer and Glenn Slater is the lyricist. The book is by Ben Elton, Slater, and Lloyd Webber. Jack O'Brien directs. Casting: Telsey + Company, 311 W. 43rd St., 10th floor, NYC 10036. The London production opened March 9, 2010, and will close Aug. 27. Plans for a Broadway opening in spring 2011 have been indefinitely postponed. A revised version, with additional lyrics by Charles Hart ("Phantom") and direction by Simon Phillips ("Priscilla Queen of the Desert"), began performances in Melbourne, Australia, in May and is slated to be filmed for DVD release. The Man in the Ceiling, a musical version of Jules Feiffer's children's book, will have a script by Feiffer and a score by Andrew Lippa. Disney Theatricals is producing. The show is currently being written.

Mandela Project, a musical based on the upcoming memoir of Zindzi Mandela, daughter of Nelson and Winnie Mandela, about the South African struggle against apartheid. The creative team is TBA.

The Nutty Professor, a musical version of the 1963 film comedy starring Jerry Lewis as a nerdy academic who transforms into a swinging lounge lizard. Lewis will direct. Marvin Hamlisch ("A Chorus Line") is composing the music and Rupert Holmes ("The Mystery of Edwin Drood") is writing the book and lyrics. Original target opening: 2010-11.

Over Here!, a revival of the 1974 musical, set during World War II. Tony Stevens will direct and choreograph. Richard and Robert Sherman, who wrote the songs, and Will Holt, who wrote the book, are participating in revising the show.

Paradise Found, a new musical based on Joseph Roth's 1939 novel "The Tale of the 1,002nd Night," set in 1870s Vienna, with book by Richard Nelson, music by Johann Strauss II (as adapted by Jonathan Tunick), and lyrics by Ellen Fitzhugh. Harold Prince and Susan Stroman will co-direct. A production at London's Menier Chocolate Factory ran May 19–June 26, 2010, and featured Mandy Patinkin, John McMartin, Judy Kaye, Shuler Hensley, Kate Baldwin, and George Lee Andrews.

Pippin, a revival of the 1972 musical by Stephen Schwartz and Roger O. Hirson about a medieval prince seeking fulfillment. Diane Paulus directs. A reading was held in November 2010 with Gavin Creel, Natalie Cortez, Jayne Houdyshell, Tracie Thoms, and the Montreal acrobatic troupe Les Sept Doigts. A New York workshop will be followed by a pre-Broadway run at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Mass., where Paulus is artistic director. Target Broadway opening: 2012-13 season.

Poor Behavior, a new play by Theresa Rebeck about two couples spending a tense weekend in the country. Sigourney Weaver, Kevin Kline, Dylan Baker, and Laila Robbins participated in a reading in April 2010. The New York Post reports that Doug Hughes will direct.

Prince of Broadway, a new revue with numbers from musicals produced and directed by Harold Prince ("Cabaret," "Follies," "Sweeney Todd," etc.). Prince will co-direct with Susan Stroman. David Thompson ("The Scottsboro Boys") will write the book. Target Broadway opening: fall 2012.

Queen of the Stardust Ballroom, a reworked version of the 1978 musical "Ballroom." Jerome Kass, who wrote the original book based on his teleplay, is rewriting the book. Jerry Mitchell is director-choreographer. The score, by composer Billy Goldenberg and lyricists Alan and Marilyn Bergman, will be augmented by new songs by Marvin Hamlisch. A reading held in spring 2010 featured Tyne Daly, Keith Carradine, Lucie Arnaz, Rondi Reed, and Julia Murney. A new reading was held Nov. 8–19, 2010. Robin and the 7 Hoods, a stage version of the 1964 film musical about Chicago gangsters. The score will feature songs by Sammy Cahn and James Van Heusen, drawn from those written for the film and other sources. Casey Nicholaw ("The Drowsy Chaperone") directs and choreographs. Rupert Holmes ("The Mystery of Edwin Drood," "The First Wives Club") will write the book. A production ran July 14–Aug. 22, 2010, at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego. Run DMC Project, a new musical about the rise of the popular rap group. Paula Wagner ("Mission: Impossible," "The Last Samurai") is producing.

Secondhand Lions, a musical version of the 2003 film about a shy boy spending the summer with his eccentric uncles in Texas. The book is by Rupert Holmes ("The Mystery of Edwin Drood"), and the score is by Michael Weiner and Alan Zachary. Matt August is directing.

Sleepless in Seattle, a musical version of the 1993 romantic film comedy. Jeff Arch, co-author of the original screenplay, will write the book. Michelle Citrin, Michael Garin, and Josh Nelson will collaborate on the score. Joel Zwick ("My Big Fat Greek Wedding") will direct. A production will play at the Pasadena Playhouse June 12–July 15.

A Star Is Born, a musical stage version of the 1954 film about a rising Hollywood actor and her alcoholic has-been husband. According to the New York Post, Kevin Spacey is in talks to play the male lead; Michael John LaChiusa is the musical supervisor and is adapting the screenplay. Jonathan Butterell directs. The score will feature the Harold Arlen–Ira Gershwin songs from the film. A workshop is planned for London's Old Vic Theatre.

Stories About McAlary, a new play by Nora Ephron about newspaper columnist Mike McAlary. Hugh Jackman, Sarah Paulson, and Richard Kind participated in a 2010 reading directed by Mike Nichols.

A Streetcar Named Desire, a revival of Tennessee Williams' classic 1947 drama. According to The New York Times, producer Stephen C. Byrd plans to mount a production with a multiracial cast for spring 2012. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Blair Underwood will star as Stanley Kowalski, and Emily Mann will direct.

Strictly Ballroom, a stage musical version of the 1992 film by Baz Luhrmann. The world premiere is planned for the Lyric Theatre in Sydney, Australia, in September 2013.

Summer Stock, a stage version of the 1950 movie musical about a Connecticut farm owner who allows a show to try out in her barn. The book is by Sam Scalamoni and Jeffrey Haddow, with new songs by composer Thomas Tierney and lyricists Tierney and Haddow. Four songs from the movie will be used. An invited industry showcase was held Aug. 6 and 7, 2009, in Manhattan.

Sweet Bird of Youth, a revival of Tennessee Williams' 1959 play about an aging movie star and an ambitious hustler. James Franco told MTV news that he and Nicole Kidman will star. David Cromer will direct. Target opening: fall 2011.

Tales of the City, a musical based on Armistead Maupin's series of novels about San Francisco in the 1970s. Jeff Whitty ("Avenue Q") is writing the book, and the score will be by Jason Sellard and John Garden of the band Scissor Sisters. Jason Moore ("Avenue Q") directs. A reading was presented July 4–11, 2009, at the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center as part of its Musical Theater Conference. A Time to Kill, a stage adaptation by Rupert Holmes of John Grisham's novel, which played at Arena Stage in Washington, D.C., through June 19, prior to a Broadway run.

White Noise, a musical about real-life "Nazi folk twins" Lynx and Lamb Gaede of the band Prussian Blue. Whoopi Goldberg is attached as a producer. A reading was held in Manhattan on Dec. 14, 2009. A new reading was held Sept. 13–25, 2010. The world premiere was presented in New Orleans in summer 2009. A production is running April 9–June 5 at Chicago's Royal George Theatre. Zorba, a revival of the 1968 musical based on the novel by Nikos Kazantzakis and the 1964 film. Antonio Banderas is reportedly interested in playing the lead, and David Leveaux will direct.
