No 'Book of Mormon' Movie Currently in the Works

"The Book of Mormon," Matt Stone and Trey Parker's hit, Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, won't be turned into a movie any time soon.

Countering recent press reports that suggested a movie version of the Broadway show is in the planning stages, Parker says there's no movie in the works at the moment, and while the two would consider a big screen version at some point in the future, Parker added, "We did a stage show and it worked out way better than we ever thought, and we'd like it to be that for a while, you know, without contaminating it with a movie."

"The Hollywood Reporter" spoke with the "South Park" creators at the 15th anniversary celebration for their hit Comedy Central series, which returns for part 2 of its 15th season on Oct. 5 at 10 p.m.

Parker explained that the whole idea of an immanent movie came about when a reporter asked the duo if they would ever consider a feature film version of their hit musical. Said Parker with a laugh, "We said, 'Yeah, I think we could do a 'Book of Mormon' movie,' and they were like, 'Book of Mormon' Movie! It's coming!'"
