The nominees for the 12th annual Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs (MAC) awards were announced on Mon., March 2. Betty Buckley, Bobby Short, John Pizzarelli, and Marcia Lewis were among the acts that grabbed mentions.
The awards honor outstanding performances in New York's comedy, cabaret, and jazz clubs.
The winners will be presented at the MAC Awards on Sun., April 19, at the Manhattan Center.
The MACs have separate categories for major engagements, to avoid having the smaller venues constantly overshadowed by big names and celebrity status.
The nominees for best male vocalist are Bobby Belfry, Charles Cermele, and Christian Nova. For best major male vocalist, David Campbell, Phillip Officer, and Short were named.
Best female vocalist mentions went to Judi Connelli, Natalie Gamsu, and Anne Runolfsson. In major venues, Betty Buckley, Ann Hampton Callaway, Karen Mason, and Julie Wilson gained nods.
The productions which gained noms for best revue/musical production of the year were: "An Evening With Carol Hall," "Leading Men Don't Dance," "Listen to My Heart (The songs of David Friedman)," and "Three Men and a Baby Grand (Lee Lessack, John Boswell, and Brian Lane Green)."
In the director's category, Lisa Asher, Scott Barnes, Barry Kleinborn, and Sara Louise Lazarus were nominated, each for multiple achievements. Lazarus was named for her direction of last year's Back Stage Bistro Awards, among other events.
For musical director, Christopher Denny, Dick Gallagher, and Jeff Waxman were mentioned.
The winners will be chosen by votes of the 1000+ members of the MAC
