Omar Sharif Speaks Out on Uprising in His Native Egypt
President Hosni Mubarak "should have resigned," the "Doctor Zhivago" and "Lawrence of Arabia" star told French radio from his home in Cairo, the New York Daily News reported. "Given that the entire Egyptian people don't want him and he's been in power for 30 years, that's enough."
Sharif, whose apartment is near Tahrir Square, the center of the protests, added that Mubarak "hasn't improved the standard of living of Egyptians."
But he also expressed concern if the Muslim Brotherhood takes over. "I don't want the Muslim Brotherhood," said the actor who was born a Christian and later converted to Islam. "They were trapped and now are starting to come out. They have 20 percent of the population, and it's frightening for me."
