With over 50 professional stage companies and nearly 1,000 members in the Actors’ Equity union, theater in Philadelphia is undeniably booming. Proof? In addition to the Barrymore Awards, Philly will now see the recently announced June and Steve Wolfson Award for an Evolving Theatre 2013.
Noting the vibrant professional theater network in Philly, the prize is meant to reward the creative growth and excellence of a local theater, as well as promote public awareness of and accessibility to this art form. The winning theater will receive a $10,000 award from the June and Steve Wolfson Family Foundation.
Eligible theater companies must have produced a minimum of two full productions in the 2010–11 and 2011–12 seasons, and a maximum annual budget of $400,000. Applications are due Feb. 15, 2013. Interested theaters should contact Jay Berkowitz at 610-716-3152 for more information.
