Carolyne Barry has had extensive professional experience as an actor, teacher, casting director, director, and producer. She has cast more than 600 national and regional commercials, industrials, and infomercials. She has 100-plus TV and film acting credits and has appeared in more than 400 national commercials.
Since 1982, Barry has led the Carolyne Barry Workshops, a successful independent full-training program in Hollywood. Barry and her teachers have trained thousands of professional actors. Recommended by agents, casting directors, managers, and former students, Barry is recognized as one of the top commercial audition teachers and is known as one of the most comprehensive. In 2011 Barry won Back Stage L.A. Readers' Choice Awards for favorite on-camera teacher and favorite commercial teacher; in 2009 she received the award for favorite commercial workshop; and in 2010 she was a runner-up for favorite commercial workshop/class.
Barry has been featured as a teaching authority in The Hollywood Reporter and L.A. Reader, as well as on CNN, KHJ, KTTV, and numerous TV and radio talk shows, and she has written for Back Stage's Commercial Break column.
From 1983 until 1989, Barry created and ran Professional Artist Group, which was the largest training and casting facility in the country. In 1995, she co-created and directed "Hysterical Blindness," a musical comedy that ran in Los Angeles for five months before going to Off-Broadway, where it had an extensive run. Barry's book "Hit the Ground Running" was released in 2009.
Barry has two other products for actors on the market. The first, "Lights, Camera, Kids!," is a DVD for children getting into the commercial business. She also co-created "An Actor's Guide to Getting the Job," a two-CD audio program (created both for actors who are ready to get work in television and film and for professional working actors who want to increase their booking ratio), as well as a series of podcasts available on iTunes.
