The "Prison Break" gang will face a formidable nemesis next season to be played by "Invasion" star William Fichtner.
Meanwhile, Penelope Ann Miller has joined another Fox/20th Century Fox TV drama series, the upcoming "Vanished."
The second season of "Prison Break" chronicles the manhunt for Michael (Wentworth Miller), Lincoln (Dominic Purcell) and the other inmates who successfully broke out of prison at the end of Season 1.
Fichtner will star as a federal agent assigned to track down and comprehend the escaped convicts.
The search for an actor to play the role went down to the wire and production on the show, on location in Dallas, had to be postponed by a day until the deal with Fichtner was finalized.
Sources said the main issue was working around Fichtner's commitment to the DreamWorks Pictures comedy feature "Blades of Glory."
Fichtner most recently starred as Sheriff Tom Underlay on ABC's critically praised drama "Invasion" and was featured in the feature "Ultraviolet."
He is repped by WMA, Brillstein-Grey Entertainment and attorney Robert Offer.
"Vanished" chronicles the disappearance of a senator's (John Allen Nelson) wife through the eyes of an FBI agent (Gale Harold) and a reporter (Rebecca Gayheart).
Miller will play Jessica Nevins, the senator's ex-wife and the mother of his children. Nevins will play the quintessential Washington politician's wife who drew her wealth and power from her then-husband and is using her considerable wiles to maneuver her way back into his life.
Miller has signed on for six episodes with an option to become a regular on the show.
Miller, whose recent credits include the comedy feature "Funny Money," the Lifetime telefilm "Personal Effects" and the upcoming feature "The Messengers," is repped by APA and manager JoAn Kincaid.
