Second Stages' New Theatre Means an Add'l 17,000 sq. ft.

  • Share:

On July 1, Second Stage Theatre (SST) unveiled plans for a separate, second theatre space that will operate simultaneously with the original SST on Broadway at W. 76 St. SST's second stage will be located on the second floor of the old Manufacturer's Hanover Bank building at 681 Eighth Ave., at W. 43 St.

The project, which is scheduled for completion in February, is being designed by architects Rem Koolhaas and Richard Gluckman. The new SST space will encompass 17,000 square feet, which comprises the four available floors of the old bank. SST's second home will provide three times the audience seating that is currently available at the Promenade Theatre, where Second Stage's original home continues to operate. SST's offices will remain at the original Broadway location.

Fall lineups were not available at press time. For further information about Second Stage Theatre (Broadway or Eighth Ave.), call (212) 501-8101.
