"SELENA: A CELEBRATION OF LIFE"

Rosalinda Morales (cstg. dir.) will hold auditions for Selena: A Celebration of Life, a musical celebration chronicling the life of Selena while paying homage to the vibrant young artist who was an inspiration to her generation. Exec. Prod. Tom Quinn, dir. Daniel Valdez. Rehearsals start Feb. 20. Performances start Mar. 28 at the Doolittle Theatre.

Breakdown—Selena: 18-25, beautiful, voluptuous, must have incredible vocal range, able to dance very well, incredibly demanding role, LEAD; Abraham Quintanilla: 35-45, Selena's father, strong, slightly paunchy, rugged-looking, baritone, LEAD; Marcela Quintanilla: 25-35, Selena's mother, very attractive, upscale, mezzo belt, demanding role, LEAD; Suzette: 18-25, Selena's older sister, plump/chubby, pretty, drumming ability preferred, Aretha Franklin type vocal range, LEAD; A.B.: 18-25, Selena's brother, stocky build, tenor, LEAD; Young Selena: 9-14 to play 11, must be able to sing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow", must resemble adult Selena; Chris Perez: 18-25, Selena's husband, band member, attractive, tenor; Jose Behar: 35-50, upscale businessman, head of EMI Latin record label, tenor; Males and females: 18-45, any ethnicity, to sing and dance, strong in jazz, Salsa, Tex/Mex, ensemble. Note: Principle roles are very physically and vocally demanding. You must be a real singer.

Principals may sing anything, bring something that shows vocal size and range. Singers bring 16 bars of a contemporary or musical theatre song that shows size and range of voice. Dancers bring jazz shoes, ladies bring heels. Have 16 bars of a song, if asked. Non-Equity, all will sing first. Paid-up Equity card required, no exceptions. Monitor present.

Equity principal auditions will be held Sat., Feb. 17, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Equity chorus auditions will be held Fri., Feb. 16, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. for singers who dance, 2 p.m. for dancers who sing; and 5-6 p.m. for non-Equity singer/dancers. Auditions will be held at the theatre, 1615 N. Vine St., stage door right of lobby, Hollywood. EQUITY SPECIAL WESTERN PRODUCTION CONTRACT ($500/week rehearsal + pref. salary in negotiation).
